What is the World Wide Web WWW?

Computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee of the United Kingdom parents were pioneering computer scientists who contributed to one of the first computers; he was born in London. 

After completing his degree at Oxford University, Berners-Lee worked as a software engineer at CERN, a big particle physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Researchers from all over the globe go there to utilize its powerful accelerators, but Sir Tim observed that they had trouble communicating with one another.

More than 17,000 researchers from more than 100 nations call CERN home; it is far from an isolated facility. Many CERN scientists do their day jobs in institutes and national labs in their home countries; nevertheless, they spend time at CERN. As a consequence, having access to trustworthy means of communication is crucial. The initial idea behind the World Wide Web was to form an effective and user-friendly worldwide information system by combining the budding fields of computing, data networks, and hypertext.

Difference between World Wide Web and Internet

    • Internet and web are two separate terms that should not be used together. Millions of personal computers worldwide are linked to create the Internet, a physical network in and of itself. On the other hand, www is an internet-accessible program providing users with a database of information.
    • Since the Internet comprises many different networks, all of them must follow a common set of guidelines called protocols to operate together. Therefore, data transfer policies on the Internet are established by Internet protocol. Since www is considered an integral part of the Internet, its various pages are subject to the same rules as the rest. Therefore, the HyperText Transport Protocol is responsible for data transport on the World Wide Web.
    • The Internet is hardware-based since it is equivalent to the physical connection of several pieces of equipment. The World Wide Web (WWW) is a software system that delivers content, such as text, music, video, images, etc., as a service through the Internet.
    • Due to its distributed nature, the Internet enables both the autonomous functioning of each device and the protocol-based data exchange between them. Online pages often include consolidated bodies of knowledge that can be accessed anytime, anywhere in the world with a functional Internet connection.
